Stretching Into The New Year

Lion_stretching_at_Ouwehands_2010 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Everyone needs to stretch, animals instinctively do it, humans have to make more of an effort. I have been stretching daily for at least 10 years and I can’t imagine life without it. Many bodily aches and pains can be remedied by simply stretching. I am 64 years old and stretching along with Tai Chi/Qi Gong keep my body vital. I have had hip pain and it alleviates that as long as I keep up my stretching without having to have hip replacement surgery. I attribute my balance and ability not to fall as easily to these practices also. It’s all very important as we age and a good practice to start when we are young. Once you get started you will see how good it feels and how your body craves it.

I do a combination of rope stretches, Qi Gong, and Yoga poses daily. I have it broken it down to two sets, morning and evening. I believe it needs to be a personalized practice that you enjoy doing. All in all I stretch for about an hour a day, but I am retired and I know not everyone has that kind of time to spare. The best place to start to build you own routine is with your Chiropractor. He or she can show you exactly what muscles and joints your body needs to work on.

There are also some supplements that can help with joint and muscle pain. Glucosamine, Chondrotin with MSM for joints and magnesium for muscles can be quite helpful. There are also herbs that are beneficial, click here to see this great formula.
